Why Sterile Technique Matters
Injectable peptides bypass your body's natural barriers, making sterile technique essential for preventing infections, abscesses, and other serious complications. Even minor contamination can lead to significant health issues.
Pre-Injection Preparation
Wash hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds. Prepare a clean workspace with alcohol wipes, sterile syringes, and needles. Allow reconstituted peptides to reach room temperature before drawing to minimize crystallization.
Vial Preparation
Clean the vial stopper with 70% isopropyl alcohol and allow to air dry for 30 seconds. Use a new alcohol wipe for each vial access. Never reuse needles that have touched any surface.
Drawing and Injection
Draw peptide solution using aseptic technique, avoiding touching the needle to vial walls. Clean injection sites with alcohol in a circular motion from center outward. Allow skin to dry completely before injecting.
Needle and Syringe Safety
Use insulin syringes (28-31 gauge) for most subcutaneous peptide injections. Never share needles or syringes. Dispose of sharps in appropriate containers immediately after use.
Storage Considerations
Store reconstituted peptides in refrigerated conditions. Label vials with reconstitution dates and discard according to stability guidelines. Multi-dose vials require extra attention to sterile technique with each access.
Red Flag Signs
Seek medical attention for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, or red streaking from injection sites. Fever, chills, or flu-like symptoms after injection warrant immediate evaluation.
